I Zingari

The museum is pleased to host the I Zingari collection on behalf of the family of the late Sir Spencer Ponsonby-Fane.

zingari

I Zingari was founded on 4th July 1845 by John Loraine Baldwin, Hon. Frederick Ponsonby (later 6th Earl of Bessborough), Hon. Spencer Ponsonby (later Sir Spencer Ponsonby-Fane) and Richard Penruddocke Long at the Blenheim Hotel in London after a match against Harrow School.

They wanted their wandering club - named after Italian for "gypsies" - to promote the good spirit of amateur cricket.
